Help w/ PSU selection for new PC

I was originally planning on getting the PC P&C 1kW-SR for my new build but have been reading that a lot of people find it very noisy. So now I'm maybe thinking about the Silencer 750 or any other suggestions you guys might have. However, I'm not sure how much wattage I'll need for my system.

Specs:
Dual 8800GTX
QX6700
WD Caviar 320 HDD
2gB DDR2 800
Asus Striker Extreme
DVD-RW
Pump for WC
*Plus a little headroom for overclocking the CPU

Would 750W be enough for this? If not, what wattage would be recommended?

I like the quality of PC P&C (stability, low ripple) , but are there other PSU's w/ similar characteristics that anyone would recommend?

Thanks for the help!

You're gonna need 1kw psu and PC P&C makes the best 1kw in business.
Don't forget depending on your overclocking, QX6700 alone is going to consume 300~400watts.

You don't need anywhere NEAR 1kw.

Silverstone ST85ZF
Silverstone ST75ZF
Corsair HX 620
Seasonic M12-700

Any Idea how many watts the above specs would actually pull? I think I'm leaning towards the PC P&C 750 Silencer if that would be enough.

The PCP&C Silencer 610 or 750 should do it, or the Corsiar HX620 or Silverstone of comparable wattage.

That's dual 8800GTX, btw, so I'd say 750 at least, if you want some overhead to upgrade in the future.

You'll be just fine with Corsair HX 620W. It's great PSU - powerful, stable, quiet, modular..btw. it+s manufactured by Seasonic. You could also go for Seasonic S12 600W or 650W (or M12 if you want modular PSU). You don't need nowhere near 1kw for that rig.

At this point, I would have a tough time recommending a Silverstone for your rig. My rig is short of yours and the 850W Silverstone failed to power my 8800GTX. Sure, I realize that anything mass produced can be bad... but I bought the 850W to be overkill for my system and the video card kept giving me alerts that it was receiving inadequate power. We bought a 650W BFG Tech for a temp unit until I could order a new one, and it worked just fine.

I just RMA'd the Silverstone and ordered the Silencer 750 Quad from PCP&C for $10 less than the Silverstone. Good Luck with your rig and your choice in PSU's.

I'm more inclined to think your ST85ZF wasn't working properly. It has a lot more power than the PCP&C 750.

Whatever floats your boat.

At the moment I'm trying to decide between the Silencer 750 or Enermax Galaxy 1kW.

Probably right that it wasn't working properly... but the more I look at reviews of late, the more I'm seeing that the units are DOA or crapping out in the first few weeks. I really liked everything I saw in the Silverstone, but if I have to worry about it dying every time I turn my system on, I'd rather have the less powerful PCP&C. But that's just my opinion. :dunno:

the new OCZ ProXStream 1kw PSU is supposed to be pretty damn good, and it fits in the space of a normal PSU (not xtra long like most of the high powered psus)
