My computer has been running fine for the last few weeks since I built it. I did run into some trouble with a certain game but I found out that was a problem with SP2, Unreal Engine 2.0, and the latest Nvidia drivers. Well I solved that problem but turning DEP off and the system has been completely fine since then, until a couple days ago when I got this error:

KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR

***STOP:0x00000077 (0xC0000185, 0xC0000185. 0x00000000, 0x00116000)

I looked it up an decided I'd work on fixing it today but when I turned on my computer today I got this:

MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION

***STOP: 0x0000009 (0x00000004, 0x8054DA70, 0xB2000000, 0x00070F0F)

What should I do here? Would reformatting and starting again be the best option? Anyone have an idea as to what might be going on? Sorry to pester you guys but this is my first build and I'm a little confused as to what I should do next.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, I got that error twice. It seems to shwo up within five minutes of turning on the computer.

Using google I read a bit about this, and it seems people get it a lot when overclocking. I haven't overclocked this system at all. Could it be the PSU failing?

.....I'd fire off a run of Memtest86+ and see what you can see. It could be bad RAM (among other things).....

Good Luck - B.B.S.

Hmmm, this is odd. A couple days ago each time I turned the computer on I got a BSoD within five minutes of turning on the computer. So I left it alone for a while, then I ran memtest for and started it up again. I've been waiting to get an error since then, and oddly enough, I have not (knock knockity knock on wood). I'm stumped. Anyone else shed some light on this?

Alright it's started acting up again. It just locked up twice within 5 minutes of turning it on. Each time I was browsing the net and it just locked up. I would like to start overclocking but I'm not going to start until the system is stable. Please, does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: Alright my system seems to be "hiccupping" now. I've been testing the CPU temp by playing a lot of UT2004 (I'd read somewhere this is CPU related). It's usually around 31C idle and the highest I've seen it is 38C under load. Normal temps right? Well I was playing UT and all of a sudden it was like my game was skipping. So I stayed in for about 30 more seconds to get a feel for the problem, then left hoping my machine wasn't damaging itself. I checked the CPU temp upon exiting and it was at 37C.

When I got back to the desktop my system seemed to be hiccupping there as well. Less noticeable but occasionally my text would just stop as I was writing, and then all of a sudden the blinker would move a good bit and everything I'd typed would instantly appear. It was only slight, but as I was looking out for kinks I paid attention to it. Also my programs seemed to be opening slower. Winamp opened one window at a time (player then playlist) rather than all at once like it usually does.

Someone please, I'm begging for some help here. This is very unsettling. I'm not too technical (just knew enough to get the thing working) and I'm looking to you guys for some guidance. What should I do?

I can't even get past windows loading now :(.

I finally got past the Machine_Check_Exception and kept the computer going for a good while. Then I had to restart, which I did. Upon powering the system back up, I got to the Windows loading screen, and it just ung there. After a few minutes of waiting I manually powered down and rebooted. I tried one more time normally and nothing happened, so next time when I got the mssage that Windows didn't start normally I tried the "Last known good configuration" option, got to the loading screen, at which point i froze after about 10 seconds and I got the Machine Check Exception BSoD.

Please anyone, what should I do?

The fact that the system worked fine for a while after you didn't power it on for some time seems to suggest that this is a hardware error, but what's puzzling is that what causes those BSODs in Windows doesn't seem to affect Memtest86+.

First thing you're supposed to do at this stage is to eliminate as many variables as possible. This basically means stripping down the system to a minimal configuration.

As the system works fine while running Memtest86+, let's assume that the mainboard, CPU, PSU, HDD, RAM and videocard are in working order, so use this configuration and take out any other part. Leave onboard devices (NIC, soundcard, etc.) enabled for now.

Try to get the error to repeat.

I would not go that far.
Memtest86 only realy checks the memory. Nothing else.
Try Prime95 to test the CPU.
Also 3dMark to test the vidio card.

Something else to try is Soft Sandra.
That way you can benchmark each sub-system and see if there is anything obviously wrong.
Ie. Most are of the benchmarks are close to the referance system but ones out etc.

Luck......... :D

I did both Prime95 and 3DMark03 once I got the system together, which was only a few weeks ago. No errrors there. I will run Prime95 while I sleep tonight though.

Something I've noticed is that it seems like UT2004 takes a lot longer to load maps then it did when I first started using the system.

System hanging now after working previously? Check your power supply, try using another one if you can and see if you get the same errors.

I guess I can buy a new power supply. I'm just using the cheap one that came with my case and I was planning to get another one anyway.

I just ran most of the Benchmarks in Sandra with no problems.

What gets me is how sporadic it is. One time I'll turn the system on and everything will be fine. I can run it for a day with no problems (other than the slower loading I mentioned). Then I'll turn it off, and it will crash within 5 minutes. The next time I turn it on it will be fine, The next day it will crash three times within 5 minutes of turning it on. The next time I try it won't even get past the windows loading screen. Then the next few times it turns on fine and stays running fine. Very confusing.

That sounds so much like a HD that is beginning to die. I suggest you backup you data as soon as possible and try another HD see if it fixes the problem.

I had similar instability with similar symptoms. Before instability began appearing when i ghosted my partition it was like XX megabytes/s (can't remember the numbers accurately)and as the system grew unstable each time i ghosted the speed would be lower when ghosting. You say it's longer to load so I'd backup the Data and bench the HD or change it right away see if it fixes the problem.

Alright, I just tried the HD bench in Sandra a couple times and each time nothing happened, I just ended up with a "Not Responding". Hmmm. Should I let it run longer than the suggested 10 minutes?

Do you have another HD on which you could install just to test, i'm pretty sure this is your problem.

You really think that troubleshooting an entire system at once is better than troubleshooting a limited number of components at a time?

currently.. im having the same problem.. im sure its the PSU in my case.. i upgraded the ram, cpu , motherboard, hardrive , and everything else.. the only thingi m gettng this week is a PSU .. ill let you know if it fixed..

Unfortunately I don't. I think I'm gonna go ahead and get a new PSU sometime soon, and if that doesn't clear up the problems then I'll probably just RMA this HD.

Alright I just noticed something new. I tried ti play UT2004 again and I started to get the choppy performance. So I quit out and sure enough everything else was running choppy too. So I open up my task manager and take a look at my CPU useage and notice that it's going wild. One second it's 30% then the next it's 93% . WTF? I seriously doubt I'm using 93% of my CPU just running Winamp and Firefox. It was hoping all around though. The lowest I saw it was 7% and the highest was 93%. And it kept jumping around to anywhere inbetween.

Nope, I have AVG set to automatically update itself and do periodic scans and no virus have been found yet. I'm pretty careful about that stuff. It was really weird though. I mean normally my CPU useage would be below 10% most of the time, but it was jumping around like nuts.

Ha, well no wonder, I thought I had set the periodic scans for 8pm when in fact they were set for 8am. That was why I was getting choppy performance during that time everyday :D. Stupid me. Still doesn't explain the Machine Check Exception BSoD, although I haven't had it since those few times Windows wouldn't load up. Odd.
