hello,

i just noticed that my smart fan is not working. in bios it is set to go 100% cpu fan speed when above 51 deg C. when stress testing with prime95, hwmonitor is reading a steady 1960rpm even if it goes over 51 deg C. in bios when i set it to 100% cpu fan speed under 51 deg C, it does raise it correctly to 2900 rpm. when manually setting it to 100% it runs at 2900 rpm. but again, when using smart fan in bios and setting it to 50% under 50 deg C, and 100% above 51 deg C, it does not change my cpu fan speed accordingly.

smart fan isn't always completely accurate, but it's close. On my system, if temperature is set to less than 35 degree's the fan is at 20% but sometimes it doesn't run at all, then kicks out, or goes to full speed under load. You probably notice that when you do a cold boot, your cpu fan doesn't kick on (if you have it similar to stock settings). I'd suggest setting the max >51 @ 100% >35 @ 20%. That way it's always on and will drop to low speed while at idle but kick up to full speed during stress.

Keep in mind what your bios reports temperature wise and what software reports is going to be different by sometimes several degree's.

Down8: i guess i didn't put an official question in my first post, but it was basically: why isn't my smart fan settings working?

bigdogchris: i will try those settings. i agree, what the bios reads temperature wise will vary from what a third party software will read, but i was pretty sure that HWMonitor was almost dead on with temp and fan speed when i was using it. i remember the fan kickin on 100% right when 51 deg C came around when i was stress testing with prime95. i have screenshots to prove it. i'll try it tho.

thanks,
chris
