my screen is black and me 'puter will not boot.

using abit's ic7 soft menu on a 2.4c, i did the following:

original ---> Ext. Clock (CPU/AGP/PCI) 200/66/33
after a little blind tinkering ----> 220/62/31mhz

i left the DRAM ratio (CPU:DRam) By SPD (1:1). my options here,
which i did not tamper with, were 3:2, 5:4, 1:1, and By SPD.

now, i upped it last night 10 quick numbers higher. no issues. machine worked well. first oc appeared a success. feeling emboldened, i then upped it another quick 10 points. black screen. eerie silence. nothing beyond a mobo light.

can i simply reset the cmos and reverse this sad misfortune ? take out
that little battery, count one mississippi, two mississippi, and put it back
in and everything will be alright ?

everybody say yes ?!?

I would reset the CMOS first.

resetting the CMOS cant result in further, if any, damage...so just do that first...

Turn the switch on the back of the psu to off. Set the jumper near the battery (the cmos jumper) to positions 3-4. Wait 30 seconds, and put it back to original settings. Your machine will now work! :D

thank you so much for all the help.

i thought about just removing the battery. its plain enough to see on the
ic7. i'll have to look a little closer to locate and remove the smaller jumpers.

i dont know if i need a new thread for this in a different category
because the problem has gotten worse.

i had removed all connectors from my o/c'ed box last night. used
an old dell instead to send out my cries for help.

well, i located the jumper. easy enough. i lifted it from 1-2 to 2-3.
waited for a commercial to end on the tellie. then i moved the jumper
back.

where i had at least the whirring of the psu fan kicking in before, now
i have next to nothing, the only item i see being powered is a lone
mobo light. there is literally nothing else happening.

any ideas would as usual be greatly appreciated ?

dont you mean from position 1-2 to 2-3, not 3-4 ?

there are only three pins as far as i can tell. i'm surprised no one has
recommended i do anything with the cmos battery. i'm also worried
that my 220 increase may have damaged the memory. is that possible ?
