Ive been going back and forth between a handful of monitors trying to decide which is the most bang for the buck when it comes to graphics work. it will be used alot for drawing (have a large wacom tablet that will get heavy use with the monitor) and some gaming, but the goal here is getting the most quality for the graphics side of things within my budget.

So far, Im down to these three:

Dell U2410
-can get this new via ebay resellers for $480-490

Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA
-this one is in the $280-$300 range

NEC EA231WMi 23"
-this one is in the $330 - $370 range

As you can see, im willing to pay upwards of $500 to get a decent IPS based panel. After reading the threads in this forum about each of those, im a bit frustrated by the lack of consistency quality wise with any of them. Im having a hard time boiling down which one overall is the best bang for the buck. Each have pluses and minuses and buyers of all three have run into various issues, so any help sorting it out would be great.

Obviously by my choices I am not concerned about screen size, just screen quality. Any of these will be a huge improvment over the TN based panel i have now, that much is certain. Id be happy to get away with the dell 22" if most feel its the best bang for the buck.

There is one wrench in all of this: The HP ZR22w and HP ZR24w, particularly the 24" model. I really wanted to get a monitor before the end of March, but if the HP 24" is going to come out at $400-$450, then should i hold off until those come out?

I have the same question. I am debating between the Dell 2209WA, NEC EA231WMi and the ZR22W though. The Dell U2410 is out of my price range.

The only possible choice for getting a monitor without as many possible flaws is to dump atleast 1k into a higher brand like Ezio , high end NEC's . Your gonna end up playing the IPS panel lottery with those 3 choices.

I just got the Dell U2410 and I love it , calibrated it just fine and its perfect for my needs. The 2209WA is also beloved and probably the best bang for the buck.Until the HP ZR24w is out and reviewed I wouldn't touch it since there is no 100 precent chance it will be any better than the rest.

U2410 and play the lottery, that's what I'm doing. Got it a few days back from the Dell deal for ~485 before tax with free shipping.

so no votes for the NEC? does the advantage in screen resolution/size mean anything against the dell 22" 1680x1050 as far as over quality goes?

The NEC EA231WMi 23 is pretty well liked and higher resolution is always nice. The quality of the 2209WA is what people love for the price , solid picture , low input latency , can do 75hz with some software editing which is very nice. The 2209WA also seems to not be as much a victim to the dell lottery as some of the other IPS panels they offer.
