Help me put a System together

Well I got a 3.46ghz Pentium 4 Extreme edition. Thats all though, I need to get a Mobo, DDR2 mem, Video card (PCI-E) and as for HDs and a Optical drive, I already know what I Want, 2 Rators in RAID and a Plextor 716SA.

What mobo do you guys recommend ?? Should I wait for the 955 chipset ????

Intel did a good job on marketing it I would assume, like how the mobo & hard drive companies pushed RAID 0 despite constant attempts to debunk that particular myth.

My $150 processor can do the SuperPi 512 in 14 seconds, how fast can your EE do it?

I got the P4 EE for free so Its all good. I also got an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ and I already built that machine, I been using AMD for a long time, Since the Pentium !!! 933 I think it was. So im kinda lost in the Intel world.


I would use the machine for everything basically. From burning Movies/Music/Games, to playing Games.

Yeah...none of that is going to get any love from a RAID 0. Just get 1 of the 74GB version, it'll work better than any other combination.

6800 GT PCIE (upgrade to two later)
1 74Gig Raptor and 1 big cheap data drive

decent case and PS

Definetly buy an 955X (the brand is at your disposal , Asus , MSI, GB , Abit ) board with some quality DDR2 RAM like Corsair that can do 3-2-2-8 at 667MHz if you want to get the most out of it.

Really. You want to tell that to my Pentium 4 2.4C? Cuz I'm pretty sure it won't fit.

I haven't, and I rather suspect that a lot of those are ID 10-T or PEBKAC errors.

Now THERE is a good idea. An EE is overkill for what you said you wanted to do with the system anyway, why not sell it and use it to pay for the entire system?

I would say whatever you do, get the ASUS 955X Premium Motherboard. That thing looks :drools: and deffinalty cant beat the top notch Intel/Asus combo.

Well, Its true that an EE is overkill but I got it for free, Plus, Its like a luxury, Plus I would never buy something that expensive myself so I want to enjoy it.

As for mobos, I really like Asus for a brand and I was actually thinking about getting it but I want to hear opinions on others. Like DFI, They have been getting popular and are good mobos, Something they were not 2 years ago.

I have an intel SLI machine, but i have a new computer every 2 months. I have to say tho, this is the coolest hardware ive had all year.
