Ok so i've been posting like crazy in this forum and probably anoying you all a lot - sorry about that :)

I've narrowed my choice of monitor down to a LCD 22" widescreen which suites my needs for space and dimensions without totaly breaking the bank which all the 23" and 24" models seem to do (over double the pice of the average 22")

I know most of them are TN pannels which I think I'm OK with, response time is high on my priority, and I also have a question about which is better, a 5ms response time which is Black-White-Black or which is Grey-Grey, I've actually read grey to grey takes longer and so a measurement in Grey-Grey is actually more accurate, but i've read the opposite on forums.

So these are the models I've narrowed it down to, although I am heavily favouring the Samsung for the HDCP support and the 8bit / 16.7 million colours, it's just the backlight bleeding that I'm worried about :(

Samsung SM-225BW 22" Widescreen
- Viewable Area: 22” Widescreen (1680x1050 Resolution)
- Interface: Analog / Digital
- Response Time: 5ms (grey to grey)
- 16.7M Colours
- Contrast Ratio: 700:1
- Viewing Angle (H/V): 160°/ 160°
- Brightness: 280cd/m2
Price: £279.99 (£328.99 Including VAT at 17.5%)

This screen is the one high up my list at the moment because it's got full 8bit colour allowing 16.7 Million colours rather than the more standard 6bit with 2bit dithering most TN pannels have - in fact im not even sure if this is a TN pannel, it was listed as a CMO (I think this is a particular type of TN pannel?) This pannel also appears to support HDCP and so does my video card so thats nice :D

However the low Contrast ratio and lower brightness is a bit worrying, also i've seen backlight bleeding issues mentioned :/

Iiyama E2200WS
-Panel TN
- Diagonal 22''
- Response time 5 msec (black white black)
- Contrast ratio 1000 : 1 typical
- Brightness 300 cd / m² typical
- Viewing zone horizontal/vertical: 170°/160°; right/left: 85°/85°; up/down: 85°/75°
- Native resolution 1,8 MegaPixel (1680 x 1050)
- Speaker 2 x 1W
Price £269.00 (£316 Incuding VAT at 17.5%)

This looks like a good pannel but I cannot find reviews of Iiyama monitors anywhere on the internet which makes me worry, they made brilliant CRT's but that doesn't mean they make great LCD's, so while I like the rep they have I'm still a bit dubious. This has a nice Contrast ratio and a nice Brightness, and also a nice response time (I hear black-white-black is better?) But this pannel is not available into well into November :(

Acer AL2216W 22"
- 1680 x 1050 (WSXGA) Optimum Resolution
- 16.2 Million Colours
- 700:1 Contrast Ratio
- 5ms Response Time
- 300 cd/m2 Brightness
Price: £239.99 (£281.99 Including VAT at 17.5%)

A little cheaper, no HDCP support but a better brightness value than the Samsung. not read much more about this panel, it will be using 6bit colour with 2bit dithering instead of the 8bit that the samsung one uses.

Viewsonic VX2235wm 22"
- 1680 x 1050 (WSXGA) Optimum Resolution
- 16.2 Million Colours
- 700:1 Contrast Ratio
- 5ms Response Time
- 280 cd/m2 Brightness
- One Analogue Input
- One DVI Input
- Built-In Rear Speakers
- VESA mounting compatible
Price: £284.99 (£334.86 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Again lower contrast and brightness and also 16.2 million colours unlike the samsung

I've seen that Sceptre linked in here just recently but I can't seem to find a store in the UK that has it stocked, probably won't for a while.

I think I'm sold with the Samsung monitor, it can display full screen HD movies with HDCP support, it's got a thin bezel, pixel response is good enough for it not to ghost in games. It also comes with a full 8bit / 16.7 Million colour display unlike most of the other TN screens which only use 6bit with 2bit dithering.

To be honest all this at 22" widescreen for only £340 with VAT and next day delivery I'm very pleased, I could be paying over TWICE that for a 23" or 24" monitor which for me is an unacceptable increase in price for the increase in size.

Theres only one problem I've read about it so far and that is backlight bleeding can be quite noticeable, but I think there's more than one revision now, some of the reviews commented there was very little back bleed, with any luck I'll get a decent one with little to no backlight bleed.

Chances are I'll order it next day delivery tomorrow and have Friday off work, and a LAN party on the weekend, I predict a good weekend :D

Frosteh, or anyone else who has one, whats your impression of the Samsung?

I am looking for something with pretty much the same criteria as Frosteh, and the Samsung looked like it was worth a good look.

I am worried by reports of poor viewing angles, and bleeding, what are they like?

The Samsung website claims 160/160 viewing angle, which is quite tight compared to others of about 178/178.

The iiyama looks tempting, afterhours claim to be getting it on the 24th at £251.43inc. Vat. although looks are defiantly not to die for, and it dosent have HDCP which is a shame. There is a hexus thread with a link to a review here. It looks like a TN panel with poor vertical viewing angles :<. Also its a 6bit panel with 2bit dithering.

Anyone got and using one of these?

I know its not on your list, but check out a dell ultrasharp
Great Panels :D
