Hey guys, I need some help; I was removing my videocard (6800 gt) from my case when I accidentally hit one the big transistors with my finger. Came right off completely, but it still looks like it could be reattached. My question- how do I put it back on. Do I just solder the transistor back on? I know its an old videocard, but I still want to save it for my Moms pc; she is having Peggle withdrawals. Any help appreciated, thankyou.

Odds are you hit a capacitor, not a transistor. Now, since the card is so old, you have 3 options.

If the card is working fine, and I know a LOT of people are gonna disagree, I'd leave it alone because I have a 6800gto with a capacitor that came off and it's been running fine for months as long as your power supply can give it clean power.

Your other option is to solder it back yourself or take it to a TV repair shop to have it resoldered.

Thanks for the reply Nova, it maybe a capacitor. Has anyone else had any experience with soldering these back on? What do I solder it with, copper or lead , other? Will just any soldering gun work? Thanks again.

Actually a really common problem.

Most people do one of three things. Either get a new card, try it out and see if it works still (odds are it will), or pay 20 bucks and take it to an electronics shop. My x850xt worked great without the cap, but I still paid to get it replaced.
