Help installing radiator...

I upgraded my WC setup and purchased a BIP II radiator. I also purchased the Radbox from Swiftech so I could mount the whole unit on the back of my PC.

Everything is running fine but when I went to mount it all yesterday I COULD NOT for the life of me get the supplied screws with the Radbox to screw into the BIP II radiator. Now I realize that the BIP comes from Danger Den and the Radbox comes from Swiftech but this is retarded.

In the end I took a fucking hammer to the radiator and ended up having to use my heatercore from the old setup once the water starting pouring out of the new holes I created in the BIP II.

So 2 questions..

1. Do the radiators that come from Swifttech allow the screws from the Radbox to screw in correctly?

2. Since Im already buying a new radiator, whats the best bang for the buck out there? A 2 fan unit would be preferrable.

1) considering swiftech makes both the rad and the radbox i would assume they fit together. you have to take into account. While the MCR220 and the BIPII are similar the 220 is wider than the BIPII.

Those screws will work after a bit of (ahem) work. The BI series is designed to work with a number 8 sheet metal screw and not a machine screw although with a bit of work and a bunch of spares you can get the machine screws to work. I use HDD scews to tap the holes with then use longer fan screws (since they are the same diameter and thread) once the holes are tapped.

You could just as easily take your rad to ACE or Coast to Coast and buy sheet metal screws of the proper length (length is critical since you can run the point of the screw into a pass tube and it sounds to me like you already know how that goes) and simply use the right screw. :)

I'd just buy a new BIP II and be done with it.

That's pretty similar to what I did. I have an AC grill and DD radiator. I just tapped the holes in the radiator (they were close already, just looks like the paint built up in the holes) and threaded my machine screws through. Once the screws were tightened down, I just slid the fan on and bolted the whole thing to my grill. I think the screws I ended up with were 2", but check yours before you go with that :). You can always buy long and trim them to fit.
 
I ordered the MCR220 from Jab-Tech along with some other crap I needed...


Granted I admit my patience is lacking and sometimes it costs me $$ (like last night), on the flip side I now know how a radiator works.
