...the X800 XT from Gateway for $385. I know alot of peeps have been in on this, and have not received a card yet. I called Gateway to see what the order status is, and they still have me on for the X800 XT and will honor the price it seems. Its due to ship on 8/9, but who knows if that will even go through. But after the benchmarks for D3 and the lack of SM 3.0 support, I'm thinking of getting the 6800GT.

What do you guys recommend I do? I'm a little confused (like alot of other peeps). Where can I get a good price on a 6800GT?

Thanks in advanced, guys. :)

I bet ATI will release drivers that even the playing field. I mean of course Doom3 will run better on a nvidia card, it was designed to. HL2 will most likely smoke on ATI.

Wait it out is my advice

Wait it out? Hrm. But D3 is right around the corner :p Also, they plan on shipping on 8/9, so the clock is kinda ticking. I am only interested in the X800 Xt if I can get it at this price, so there is only time to back out if I really mean to.

If you buy a 6800GT now it's $400 without tax. If you just wait it out for a few days after Doom3 and official benchmarks you'll pay less for a supposedly "better overall" card.

WAIT IT OUT.

Get a GT now for Doom next week. When your XT finally comes in, judge and compare both cards for yourself and sell the one you don't want to keep.

Where can he get a 6800GT for $400 right now?

The only places that have any GTs in stock are gouging at $450-500.

If the price was $485 I would advise to jump ship, but at $385 it's worth it to wait and see....unless you plan on getting Doom 3 the day it hits shelves and don't have a card you can play it with now.

Not to be mean or anything but are u a dumbass? Please take a walk down the road of enlightenment with me...

Your paying $385 dollars for ATI's flagship card which hands down crushes the 6800GT in every game except for more than likely the retail version of Doom3. On the other hand we have the 6800GT which will cost you at the bare minimum $399 but more than likely your only gonna find one in the 450-500 dollar range online.

So my question to you is why would you not want to get that ATI card? Espically considering that the game is gonna be capped at 60fps and all four leading gfx cards were doing well above that on avg. in the official benchmark test.

My advice dont buy to much in to the hype you have a great deal on a great card and you should stick with it. So what if your not playing doom3 on 8/3? What an extra week of waiting? You've been waiting a few yrs dont tell me you cant wait an extra few days to play Doom3 in all of its glory.

You should buy a BFG6800GTOC for around that price
better card for the money

Well, most GTs seems able to be OCed to Ultra speeds. With that in mind (and if you can afford it) buy a GT now and see how it overclocks. If you can get it to Ultra speeds then sell the XT when it arrives. They're going for $500+ on ebay right now. You'd make a killing. Just one guy's opinion. ;)

You would not be disappointed if you went with the 6800GT. That is not saying you won't have a better gaming experience with the XT-PE, but you would be getting a great card.

You my friend are what we like to call the classic fanboy..why would you try and get him to buy somthing that has less tech and is a 3 year old core?.....makes no sence..as of right now the 6800GT is the bang for the buck...get over your fanboism. and help the poor boy out, and not try and make him buy somthing that he might not possibly like...oh well...and yes you can call me a fanboy for all i care. but the bang for the buck is a 6800GT...end of story

Yeah I'd hate to tel lyou but when I ordered my card from them over two months ago they were giving me a different shipping date every week. Every week I'd call and they'd move it back a week. That and the fact that their customer service is atrocious coupled with the fact that the 6800GT is simply amazing convinced me to make the switch. Yes it's a great deal for $385 but do you think you'll ever really get the card?

You're right I doubt he’ll see the card from gateway.

When did you buy your 6800 GT?

Gotta agree with the last 2 posters. I too am on the waiting list for the X800XT @ $435, and plan to buy a 6800GT sometime this week, when dangerden's water block comes out. That being said, I'll probally keep my x800xt order going, and just ebay the sucker if I can get it early enough. I've had enough with gateway's shipping date changes, but wouldn't mind getting some money out of it. Plus, some of the "Stories" I've heard of these places getting 1-3 XT's a week makes me wanna vomit :p

What's this about a dangerden block for the 6800GT coming out this week? Where can I find more info? I guess I'm heading over to dangerden.

EDIT: OK, I see the pics of it on dangerden's front page. Any ideas how much it'll cost?

I'll put it in easy to understand formula:

Gateway orders for the XT have been backed up for weeks now. Seems no one is getting their "special" price. If you want to wait, you certainly can. 385 bucks for a 500$ card sounds great. Don't get confused by ATI uberfans and the Nvidiots in this forum. It doesn't matter what computer device you're talking about..or who makes that device, the bottom line is you are walking away with a 150$ discount on that card. If anybody said drop the order..and order a GT they would be a moron..or must have a money tree.

With that said, if you need a new card before..or about the time it takes to get Doom III, and you just can't take it..I agree with 101 and say get the 6800 GT, and whenever you get your X800..Ebay whichever card you like least. If you cannot afford buying 2 400$ cards (which I certainly could not), I would definitely still wait. Getting a 500$ card for 380$ is nothing to shun. Both cards are incredible.

Regarding the GT, The X800's..etc.. Don't listen to people saying it's old technology..and it sucks on Doom III, etc..etc. You will find the X800 XT as well as the 6800GT will run the game GREAT. The GT may be a little behind the XT in everything DX..but not by a large deficit. With a little overclocking that should be no problems. It certainly is not being "crushed" by ATI.

You people need to take your head out your colons and think logically. Logic to most of you is trying to justify getting one card vs. the other. Shouldn't take a 5th grade mentality to realise the X800 XT could make this guy MONEY if he chooses not to keep it.

Hrm, well said. Thanks for putting it into perspective. I am currently running a 2800XP, 1GB of PC2700 Dual-channel, and a 9700 PRO. My gut agrees with what you're saying and I think I'll wait for the order.

You are wise grasshoppa..

With a 9700 Pro you should have no problem, and in the middle of your Doom experience you get to do a massive upgrade, whenever you get that X800. I just really hope they honor your purchase and don't pull some bullshit in a week saying the item is no longer avaiable..etc..etc.

The only reason I got my GT is my 9700 Pro AIW "broke" and I had to bring it back to CompUSa for them to honor my warranty, and since "conveiniently" they do not have anymore 9700 AIW's, I got a 6800GT for about 100$.

Oh, nice! Sounds like you fell into a pretty good deal.

Yea, I'm hopeing they honor it as well. I a little nervous, and have found myself calling almost every day to check on things. Infact, today when I called the lady felt so bad for me for waiting she upgraded my shipping to Next-day, yay! :)

Annoying customer always get what they want... j/k

I usually Buy a Comp USA 2 year plan..and make sure I get a card that a company will be discontinuing in the next 2 years. I always overclock..and have not had a card last me more than 2 years, so I am always garaunteed a 300 to 400$ credit to the store when my card breaks (because I make sure they are out of stock at a location..and get a credit for a video card of my choice..

Only reason I do this is Comp USA has screwed me royally in the past decade too many times to remember. And they are STILL screwing people to this day.

Logic always makes sense ;) I totally agree, you have to think of it more as a business investment. I also have a Gateway X800XT on order, and I would be foolish to cancel now. What you should do, like I am going to, is buy a VIVO X800pro and flash it to a full X800XT, then when/if I get my X800XT from Gateway, eBay the sucker. This way, you will make a good $100 on the card, and basically have gotten an X800XT for around $350 (considering a VIVO X800pro is around $450, and subtracting the $100 profit), while having it in time for Doom3. On that note, the Doom 3 thing is getting old. The game won't play/look noticeably different running on either the X800XT or 6800GT. Then if you are actually planning on playing any other games in the future besides Doom 3, you will get better performance out of your $350 X800XT. Beat that.

Note that if it is a "Made by ATi" X800 XT PE, I talked with ATi reps, and they said they're not actually releasing their card until some time in October.

However, this does not mean that there are no X800 XT PEs out there. Companies like Sapphire, VisionTek, PowerColor... etc. may already have their X800 XT PEs out, but in just very highly allocated stock.

I called VisionTek, and they have a 3+ week waiting list if you were to order directly from their site today.

Just a note to keep in mind. The release date of some time in October is what I heard directly from ATi, however I'm not saying that it's not possible to find one.

I thik that's very likely. People are getting all worked up on the ATi vs Nvidia thing. These are new cards. Drivers need to be optimized for them and it takes time.
