10 years worth of media, comics, important program back ups and porn. I tried to format a flash drive quick a quick format and I choose my media hard drive instead. Yeah, I know, how do you format a 250GB HDD instead of a 2GB thumb drive, but I did. The format failed so I was thinking nothing had happend, but I can't access it and it asks me to format it again.

Okay, I don't know how you managed to do this as I believe it even warns you and asks you to confirm a second time before it does the format, but I think you're probably in luck, since the Windows formatting tool is only high level formatting, so all (or most) of the data on that drive partition should still be intact. Just don't do anything with it until you start recovery.

Read this thread for opinions about data recovery software.

And next time...pay closer attention mmkay?

GetDataBack should do the trick, the Windows format only erases the file table, so the data is still there, you just need something to go through and find the files again.

I had this happen once i was formating my os drive and windows lost the infromation on my other drive i used recovermyfiles and it completely rebuild the drive, Files, Folders, and File system, all of it i was very impressed. Good luck losing a harddrive can be very disheartening.

There are a number of data recovery tools that can pull files from an accidentally formatted drive. I doubt there's anything out there that will recover that much data that is free, so you might have to pay $20-30 to get a program. I've had pretty good luck with such utilities though. I accidentally did the same thing on a hard drive about 5-6 years ago and I was able to get back just about everything important. Some stuff was lost forever, but probably 99% of it was easily replaced or unimportant. These little utilities are also useful for recovering data from a supposedly bad or corrupt hard drive as well.

I can certainly attest for this program. It saved me from a bad "cut and paste" from one of my computers to the other.

I can attest to the FAT version, which saved me when my flash drive's file table got messed up.
