help HD crash

The drive I use for back up just crashed it has all my music I took forever to organize but more importantly 10 years of photos. I can see it, I can't really tell what is wrong, when I play mp3's from it they are choppy which is when i realized something was wrong and now I tried to copy my pictures from it and it crashes windows everytime

Check your connections first.
Then boot to safe mode and try.
Try a new cable
Then (while still in safe mode) run a chkdsk or try it in another computer

Maybe try http://www.roadkil.net/unstopcp.html but I don't know if it does hard disks or only CDs.

its deactivated in safe mode, when I try to activate it cant, trying to get back into normal windows it keeps crashing so i unplugged it, im guessing its just dead. ugh
