Help getting SATA drive to boot?

Hi everyone. I hope someone can help me out with this one.

I just installed a new WD Raptor via a Silicon Image SATA controller card in a PCI slot in my MSI K7Turbo2 Motherboard.

I have no other HDD installed at the time of the OS install.

I dropped in a WinXP Disk, hit F6, provided the latest Silicon Image drivers on a floppy, Windows found the Raptor, formatted and partitioned, installed windows, and asked me to reboot.

I changed the boot device order to SCSI / CDROM/ Floppy and let it reboot. During the POST I see the CDROM on IDE 1, I see the Controller Card, I see the raptor on the controller card, and then when I would expect to see the little black and white bar across the bottom the monitor goes ...BLANK!

Any Ideas what is going on here? I mean both the Motherboard and Windows know the drive is there - Windows installed witout a hitch. I've tried booting from HDD1 as well as SCSI, and still no joy. My MSI board doesn't support RAID could this prevent the Raptor from booting to a SCSI device?

Arggg. Help. Please. Thanks.

Does you're MB BIOS provide the option for "PCI Device", or "add on device", in boot sequence select? Do you see the controller boards BIOS load, immediately following MB BIOS, and prior to windows attempting to load? Have you enabled INT13 on controller cards configuration menu?
 
My BIOS does include a number of boot options including USB, External Device, ect. I don't remember anything as obvious as "PCI device" but I will have to check when I get home. (Sorry I shouldn't post questions without the computer at hand)

Yeah, after the MB BIOS I do see the controller card BIOS load in the post, and shortly therafter the Raptor Drive.

I haven't encountered the controller cards configuraton menu, Is there a Keyboard entry into the cards menu?

What is INT13?

I should also add that I am not getting any errors from Windows attmepting to load like "NTLDR not found" or anything like that.

During card bios display, normally given the option to hit CTRL+(some letter), or an "F" button to enter card set up menu. Since you loaded windows onto the drive, I'm guessing INT13 option needs to be enable in controller menu. Basically telling windows to boot from a pci device. Another thing I would personally recommend, though opinions vary. Change boot order to floppy, CD, then PCI device or whatever MB allows. Gives you 2 different interupt options ahead of actual windows boot. I'm kinda new to this SATA/RAID stuff myself, but have 2 different systems running SATA drives in RAID configurations after dozens of mistakes on my part. Learning the hard way, easier to remember the mistakes, and what not to do again.
 
OK this sucks.
The Motherboard BIOS doesn't include a boot from PCI device option. Only a bunch of external, Zip, and USB drive options.

I cannot get into the host controller BIOS, not with any of the function keys or CTRL + Anykey. I'm not even sure if it is configurable. There is nothing on Silicon Image's website or in the user manual that came with the card.

Anyone know what I should do now?

Looks like it is trying to boot from your Raptor drive but there is a conflict. Otherwise you would get an OS not found message it wouldn't go blank. Are you sure there's now way to enter the SI BIOS, you should contact SI by sending them an email.
 
So I took the contoller card and Raptor drive and stuck them in another rig with an Iwill KK266-R motherboard.

I reflashed the BIOS of the controller card (which may have solved the problem) to see if I could configure it at that time (I could not),

When installing Windows I hit F6, loaded the drivers, formated the drive, and installed Windows. It rebooted and completed the install with no problem. I had set the Iwill BIOS to boot from SCSI.

So is this a problem with my MSI K7T Turbo? Seems like it.

I am tempted to take the the Raptor with Windows on it and stick it back in the MSI board and see if it will boot.

What are the concerns when swapping a hard drive with an OS on it between two computers? The only hardware on each is a different video card and a different optical Drive.
