Help: Cannot Print To Dos Using Usb To Dot Matrix Printer

Yesterday I bought a USB to LPT1 cable. I did connect it to EPSON dot matrix printer and it works fine using Test print and also to Windows applications like MS Word.
My problem is I am still using DOS application and it wont print. Please help. BTW, I'm using Win 2000 OS.
 
I've never been able to print through DOS to a local USB printer. In fact, we have some legacy apps that some people use and they require a local parallel printer.
 
one way we got around it was to share it out through another computer. Lucky for us, this extremely old software would accept a "\\pc\printer" type of address for the printer.
