Help an OC'ing newbie...

I've got a P4 1.6A that I'd like to overclock a little. It's in a cheap shuttle motherboard that came with it in a combo from Fry's. In the bios I have these options for OC'ing:
CPU-SDRAM-PCI
100-100-33
100-133-33
100-166-33
105-140-35
108-144-36
112-140-31

I would like to use the 112-140-31mhz for 1.8ghz from the processor. I know the 1.6a can handle it, but what about the RAM? I have a cheap stick of 512mb DDR, how do I even know what mhz it's rated at? Also, do I loose performance by underclocking the PCI?
 
i had some cheapo ddr a while back, and it wouldnt even run at its rated speed. right now, i am using corsair value select ram that loves to overclock for me. so really it depends on the ram that you have. the only way to find out if it will work is to try it. thats the fun in ocing. bump it up a notch and see if its stable, then bumpit up again, and keep doing so until its not stable, also, i dont know it that board has options for voltage tweaking, but if it does, then when you find that it is unstable, up the voltages. the sad thing about overclocking cheap hardware is that most cheap mobos like that one dont perform so well, and that really is a bummer that i have experienced. but anyway experiment with it and let us know what happens. What I'm mainly worried about is damaging the RAM. If I try the 112-140-31 setting and find that it's unstable, am I going to damage anything permanently?
 
If the memory cant take that speed, the system will not boot. The 31 PCI bus im not sure on.. Ive never ran the PCI bus under.. but I have run it @ 35 which is over, and I didnt have any problems.
 
yeah you wont damage the ram. if it cant handle that speed, then the system will not boot as kenpomasta said. i wouldnt think that running the pci bus 2 mhz underclocked would do much, although like i said the only way to find out is to try it!
 
So it won't overheat or anything? Alright then...I'm holding you guys responsible when something breaks... :p
