Hey everybody! I'm looking for a little help setting my machines up for optimal folding. I'm new at this, so please forgive me for not using the word boxen.
I've had my work computer folding for a month or so now and I've just set up my home computer for folding as well. I'll give you guys the machine specs and how they need to be used.
Work Compy:
Dual-Proc Dual-Core AMD Opteron 2.40GHz, 4GB RAM, XP-64
This is a CAD workstation, stays on 24/7, but occasionally needs a reboot. Currently have the SMP client running on this.
Home Compy:
E6750, 2GB RAM, XP-Pro
This does not run 24/7. I just installed the SMP client last night and the Affinity Changer. This morning shutting down, I may have come across a problem.
1. Is the SMP client what I want to be using?
2. Should I only have 1 SMP clint running on the AMD system, and/or should I have the Affinity Changer on either machine?
3. Are there any settings (like WU>5MB) that I should change from the defaults?
4. The requirement of username/password for the SMP client meant I had to enter the admin account info to install on my home compy. This morning I hit Ctrl-C to kill the client. FAH.exe was killed, but the cores were still running. The only way I could get them to shut down was through the Task Manager. Is there something I need to do to shut this down?
I've been building and OCing my compys for over 10 years, so I have a pretty good understanding of things, but it doesn't mean I'm any sort of expert. Even suggesting things that you think I should already know may help.
Thanks a lot. Go [H]orde.
