got an old barton cooler laying around and a worthless FX5900 XT in another box.. was wondering if i could rip off the stock chaintech cooler and plop on the amd heatsink and fan.. right now it sits around 95F in windows, and in games it goes anywhere from 120-125F

just wanting to know if its worth to try.
 
If that video card is worthless and just sitting in a box, i'll take it off your hands ;)

As for replacing the cooler with the AMD HSF, I'm not sure if you can get it to work on that card, but I have seen CPU HSFs used on video cards.
 
well the thing is.. since it's 'useless' i can apply the AS 5 , and on the very edges superglue that badboy to the chip and hook the fan up to the mobo..
 
I still say instead of possibly wasting it you send it to me :D
 
measure out the mounting holes on the CPU HSF and drill holes (making sure you have enough room in the fins for the head of the bolt) and bolt it on - not much to it
