Heater Core or BIX ?

You might want to try contacting "Malph" at wcmp@shaw.ca. If I remember right he's the one making the shrouds anf Weapon is makeng the heater cores. it's sort of a joint venture........... :eek:
Here's a shot or mine that I got from "Malph", dual heater core with 5/8 barbs and dual shrouds. And I'm runnng 2 of these monsters................. :eek:

Actually. Malph has both except that you might be better off getting it from Weapon if you're in the States unless he's busy.

are you talking about the MCR-220 dual 120 radiator that is in the extreme duty apex kit like this one?

That's the one. There's quite a few guys on here that have them, and prolly a dozen or so that will be getting them soon. If you could whip up a mold/template for that rad, I'm sure we could keep you employed for awhile if yer up for a project like this.

hmmm...the sides couldn't have much of an angle as the rad is roughly the width as a 120mm fan and not much more than 240mm in height on the core. Anyone have a good pic of the front of one of those rads without fans on it? In any event, it doesn't look like it would be much of a problem with a possible exception being how to mount it to the rad.

You'd have to mount it with LONG screws theough the fan mount holes. It wouldn't be a big problem really..................;)

The fan mount hole patern is pretty darn cloe to the BIX II, see pic below............ :D

BIX II is on top and the Swifty is on the bottom.

Yours looks like a ThermoChill HE 120.2 which is a pretty good radiator. They are a little over priced here in the US but they do a good job and have some great features.

man.. i want one of those 240x240 rads... those things look nutty.. I wonder if i could mod a Thermaltake Tai Chi enough to fit one with one shroud...
 
I'll just stick with my heater cores, they are alot cheaper, offer top performance and I've already got 2 in my system................. :eek: I've already pulled the Swifty system from my test rig and I'm installing the Storm block and pump in my main rig. Guess I need to find a need for some 240 radiators............. :D

One of those would fit perfactly in the side of my Monster Rig on the right side..................... :D

first, biohazard -- thanks for the diagram and the pics - very helpful. I have a BIXII here that I have been playing with for some time and I have a shroud that is almost worked out for it. My primary concerns with that one and long screws are the positioning of the flow channels. Usually, at least one of them is just slightly beneath one of the fan mounting holes - if you use long screws and use just a little too much torque, it will puncture the water channel and produce a lovely niagra falls effect. I am working around that. :)

120 x 3 rads. lol - before they went vertical 3, I was already on the first version of the monstercore --

4 x 120 inline per side after a little torch work. :)
I think the side-by-side quad 120 cores are a bit more effective - more channels = less flow resistance.
 
just a little more info for you on the Swifty rad............... :cool: The swifty rad has M3.5 threaded fan and case-mounting holes

aite - I'll probably just have to order one at some point. I hate trying to build anything from spec sheets alone as there is always something on the actual piece of hardware that is not obvious from the specs...that one never fails. The BIX2 is a perfect example - from the specs you could never spot the possible problem with the flow channels and the mounting holes. That could have been a big problem.

Cool. Let me know when you get around to doing this. I'll even buy the prototype if I have to.
