hey i was wondering if anyone knew what how these wires went together i have for example the end in this photo that is before the Y split that becomes the two headphones.

it has 2 red signal wires, 2 blue signal wires, and 2 common wires.

then in this photo of the left headphone's wire there is 2 blue signal wires and 2 commons.
of course the left headphone will have the 2 red signal wires and 2 commons. I was wondering how these all went together if i were to solder them. do all the commons go together and such. thanks

Most of the time, RED is right, but since you didn't give any manufacturers, I can't check or say. Your best bet is to get a continuity meter (multimeter) and check where they are wired to at each end.

The ground wires all end up going to the sleeve on the connector. Headphones don't provide separate ground for L and R, they're shared.

i guess the confusion was not about the sides. Im going to solder red end with red end. Blue end with blue end. I was confused about all the commons. mainly because there are two separate commons in the main wire. and 2 common wires per channel L/R. also there are, as you can see in the photo, two signal wires for each side

I suppose just put all commons together and all blue goes with all blue. All red goes with all red?

Common is common. Your 1/8" headphone plug only has Left, Right, and Ground/Common. They are probably separate to give more flexibility to the cable. I'm guessing the very fine wire is fused with thread of some sort too.

This. To solder you can either tin the wires beforehand or burn off the excess fabric material with a lighter to get a better solder joint.

Yeah, As every one else said. Its a single driver with multiple thin wires for flexibility.

I hate the fabric, I understand its point but hate it none the less.

COMM' ON guys! make up your minds! j'k thanks. this is kinda what i thought. I've tried this connection with a breadboard but I've probably just been sloppy. Ill try it with an actual solder.

Likely won't work well because of the fabric on the wiring, you can try again if you burn it off though.
