I had a nerd victory last night and got my Sondigo Inferno working in Windows 8. The only problem is that it doesn't have a header for the front panel headphone jack. I only use headphones occasionally, mostly when I want to use the mic playing BF3. Am I better off leaving the onboard sound enabled to use the headphones or buying a usb adapter to plug in when I want to use them?

he has a dedicated soundcard, the Sondigo Inferno. huskerpat - can you just use a 3.5mm extension cable from the headphone-out on your sound card? usually using the front headphone jack introduces buzzing, hissing, sound popping etc. from the ambient noise within your computer.
I have my speakers plugged into the output the headphones would use on the card.
I'm not really worried about SQ with my headphones as much as I am what works better for the computer. Leaving the onboard sound enabled, or using a cheap USB soundcard only when using the headphones.

I'm interpreting his question to mean he wants automatic output device switching when he plugs in the headphones, and doesn't want to have to crawl behind the computer to get it. Also, the Inferno doesn't appear to have a dedicated headphone out; the front channels would have to be unplugged and swapped for the headphones.
