Can't seem to get this to work with my cable service. Do I have to have digital cable for this to work?
This is what I have: SiliconDust HDHR3-CC HDHomeRun PRIME CableCARD TV tuners
Now, I used to have an older PCI TV Tuner card that I used to watch TV on my PC. I've since been upgrading my HTPC setup, so I can no longer use the PCI card since I do not have a PCI slot. I went with this unit so I'm not limited to watching TV on just one PC (HTPC) plus the ability to record multiple shows at once.
After getting this, I've hooked it up and tried to use it without a CableCARD since I don't really want/need channels you have to subscribe too. I have basic cable and it works for me. However, it wasn't picking up any channel only three channels that are OTA channels, despite setting the Tuners as "Digital Cable".. So I went to my Cable providers office and got a CableCARD to pair with the unit. Got home, set it up, called them to get it paired on their end and it's reporting as established.
However, I still can not see what I want to watch in Windows Media Center. Anytime I try to watch channels 2 - 70 (The basic TV channels) it tells me that there is no TV Signal. If I try to watch a channel > 100, it tells me I need to be subscribed to them. (Not a big deal, don't want to watch them anyway.)
I've tried calling my Cable provider to see if they can help me and they just don't know either. What I personally think the issue is;
My basic TV service is being sent to me in an NTSC format; thus this tuner can not retrieve it. I do get some channels now that I've got a CableCard paired with it, but I really can't tell what channels they are as I can only preview them with the SiliconDusts software, MCE still doesn't work. Also I get no sound on those channels. I believe it's like ~10 channels or so. I've asked them about going to digital TV service if it will send the signal in clearQAM so my tuner can read it but he told me that it's still an analog signal sent to the cable box and the cable box converts it to digital?
I am so confused on what I need to do here. I don't even know where to start.
