HDD Sideways?

Since I'm too lazy to finish my install of Windows xp pro on my new hdd, and since I'm too lazy to mount my current hdd as I'll soon be replacing it, I decided to sit my current hard drive sideways in my case next to the case window. It looks nifty, and is held in place between my cathode that's on the case floor, and a piece of cardboard and is seated again the motherboard slide plate.

Will having a hard drive setup on its side hurt anything? I've seen them vertical, but not upside down or sideways, so I'm kinda curious.
 
Any somewhat new HDD will work in any position. Just don't shake them violently, or tip them over when placed on their side :D

Any vertical or horizontal position. The manufacturers tech support highly, highly, recommend against mounting it at angles beyond like 5 degrees.
 
Hmm, that's interesting... I wonder why? They're not voice coil actuators any more...
 
Ok thanks. Maybe i'll just stickypad it to the floor of the case soon, as that way it'll be more portable.

My only guess is it has something to do with moving the heads at an angle at high speed, there's probably jsut a tiny bit of flex during seeks. Either that or something to do with the force of a rotating platter on the bearings.
