Is a hd6850 total overkill for 1280x720? I use my hdtv as my pc monitor. I will be playing games like borderlands, FO3, FO NV, and MW3 if it isnt total poop
Im in the process of building a new pc now, here will be the parts
AMD phenom 2 X4 965 be cpu
gigabyte 760 mobo
4gb ddr3 1333mhz
1tb F3 spinpoint HD
corsair cx430 watt psu

I would like the video card to last a while, I figure at my low res I should be able to play metro if I wanted. Will not be playing BF3 ( i hate it) Will be mostly picking up uber cheap steam sales games as I have missed out on a lot of g\decent pc games, last I played was bioshock 1 lol
 
It will last you a long time, and do check out if your tv doesn't actually support 1360x768, just for a bit better eye candy.
Also at that res, 720p or 768p, you will be more than able to use 4x AA and 8x with almost no care in the world, unless the game is atrociously coded. (heck even Crysis2 patched and with the extra textures should prove no problem at all).

I do pretty much the same on my setup, using 1080p in some games, but if not 768p (i prefer to run my games vsynced as much as i can, so i prefer a drop in res and some AA, and in that regard i can reasure you that the 6850 will handle those games).
 
It's overkill, but not total overkill. I found a 5770 wasn't quite enough to run 8xSSAA in all dx9 titles, it experienced occasional slowdown in games with lots of alpha textures/fog. If you're one of those guys that never uses Antialiasing or other IQ options then yeah, total overkill.
 
It's definitely overkill right now, but is there any chance of you going to a 1080p TV within the next year? If so, you *MIGHT* want to think about a HD6950 instead, although that would be held back by the CPU.
 
If you're going to play high-end games with decent graphics, an HD6850 will be a good buy at 1280x720, a decent amount of performance, and a noticeable difference over the HD6670.
 
The tv goes up to 1920 by something stupid, it does 1080i but not 1080p so I can really go up from 720p if I want to but when i do it makes the text small as shit cranked up. I mean I can play with it up like that after I know the controls of the game but at least in the beginning it will have to be at 720p LOL
 
It does 1360x768 in the display settings but I remember forcing some 1920 by something before in the game settings, I did it back when world at war came out. I haven't games on this tv thru a pc in a long time so i really can't remember the 1920 res I had it at
 
Borderlands runs silky smooth with everything turned up to max at 1920x1080 on my 6850. Same with Bioshock. So if you know you will never run anything higher than 720p a 6850 might be overkill...
 
Well 768p is almost exactly half the pixels of 1080p, and i bet that it is the real native resolution of your TV.

Again i do support a 6850 to last you a while with the fancy graphical settings from here for some time with your pc. And if a game runs "too fast" you can always change the AA from ingame multisample to an overriden supersampling with RadeonPro.

Was probably 1080i (1920x1080 interlaced) - normally if a TV does 1080i but not 1080p then it's actually a 1366x768 panel and is just downscaling 1080i.
