HD4870 or HD5770

[Warmonger101]

My son said he'd like to get an HD4870 x2. He's married with a new son, so he doesn't have the funds to by the latest and greatest. I'd like to get what he wants, but if I could, I'd like to get him something better. Would the HD 5770 offer better performance than the HD4870x2 or would I have to go to the 5850 to match the performance? Which way should I go? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks

You would need a 5870 to match the performance of a 4870x2. The 5850 comes close though.

Go with the 5870. 5850's are almost impossible to come by, seems like the 5870's are more common (although still very hard to find)
