I have an intel D915PBL mobo, that only has one parallel ide connector on it. I have two IDE HDs, but I bought some converters to turn them into SATA (Syba SATA to IDE Dongle). The mobo won't recognize the HD at all, I've tried jumpers, changing what sata port they're in, enabling/disabling RAID, all that stuff. Is it the adaptors? Or a setting on the board?
 
well make sure pin 1 is down on your mobo. the pin1 is the red wire. try that and make sure once again everything is put in right.

You sure you're a tech pro? Maybe tell him how he connects a SATA cable in backwards... Even show him (and me while you're at it) where pin 1 is on a SATA cable.
 
... hey thats just my name... and hey he has a ide to sata converter, why not take the converter out and try that? and make sure pin1 is down..... OK!? btw you can check every post i've yet to call my self a Tech_Professinoal, i'm simply a Tech_Prospector, SEE HOMIE! haha anyways hope you get your prob fixed. BTW: i do not use SATA yet.

How does an adapter go bad? Forget to put it back in the fridge when you're finished with it? lol :p

You said on the mobo.. ummm. . the connection on the mobo is SATA, remember? And pin 1 goes towards the power plug on the HDD. Anybody knows that. Besides, the adapter will more than likely have the typical lip on them so that they can only plug into the HDD one way. I don't use adapters, just SATA drives, but it only makes sense as even all new PATA cables have them. Man oh man. lol
 
Lol, i got it working, It kinda helps when u add the connector for power (the same one that a floppy drive uses), and now it works just fine. I feel like a tool lol. Thanks for the help guys, i should hold my head down in shame. :rolleyes:

Anything that involves, microchips, silicon, traces, leds, diodes, transistors, capacitors, or switches can go bad. In this case it was it but it does happen. Electronic parts can go bad for no obvious reason.
