Can you have 1 HD on cable select & and the second set to master or slave? will this work?

The reason I ask is because I have always setup my HDs as master & slave. Just curious if there is a difference or benefit.

umm sortof.

Cable select will set the drive to master or slave depending on which plug the drive is in. (when using a cable designed for cable select... 99%+ of them)

If the drive is on the last plug, it will be master, if it is on the middle plug it will be slave.

So if you have one drive jumpered to master, and it is on the middle plug, and you have the second drive on cable select and it is on the end plug, they will conflict just the same as if you had them both set to master. (same for slave, if the end drive is slave and the middle drive cable select) If you have the master drive on the end, and the cable select in the middle, it will work. (and again if you have the slave in the middle and the cable select on the end, again it will work)

There is no advantage to using cable select over configuring it yourself.
