I ran into something that I did not expect. I installed a HD7850 in a computer for my wife and when she started up her game a message came up saying that this video card did not support Shader Model 3. The game was the new Legos Marvel Super Hero's game. Has anyone run into this? It was a surprise to me when this message popped up. I previously had a Nvidia card installed and had to put it back into her compter so she could play her game. I also had the latest drivers installed for the HD7850.

The games launcher probably used a terrible way of determining what's supported by the card. It probably checked the model against a known list of existing cards (for the time), rather than actually probe the capabilities of said card.

Bad programming, folks. It's everywhere.

You are probably right. You would think that the programming of games would catch up to the technology. The game works fine with a GTX560Ti but not a Amd HD7850.
