What purpose has the OptionRom of an HBA, e.g. M1015?
How do I disable it and why?

IMO, the OptionRom contains the WebBIOS software.
Using it, you can setup RAID configuration outside of the OS.

I use the 9211-8i IT firmware so I don't need the WebBIOS. When I cross-flashed the card from M1015 to 9211 IT, I did not flash the OptionRom (no -b mptsas2.rom).

It's faster to boot since no bios is loaded and there isn't waiting time anymore.
