Having some issues folding.

Hey all.
It used to take me anywhere from a week to a month to go through a work unit, since I keep the CPU dedication low and turn it off as it disables my ability to play games (alt-tabbing during loading screens in every game).
However, it is now taking over 3 months to do any work unit unless I give it the "Real time" CPU dedication and leave it on 24/7.
Am I just getting huge work units or is there something going on with my PC?
I have a XP 64 3200+ with 1GB PC3500 and an x850XT... really don't see what's slowing it down at all.
Any help?

Are you running the graphical client? If you are, try using the console version. Configure it to have idle cpu priority, and 100% cpu usage, and set it to run as a service. Wont cause any issues gaming, and wont slow gaming or anything else down.

RavenD is right, it sounds as though you are running the graphical client. While a worthy version, for anyone who games, it causes more problems than it is worth.

You'll definitely want to give the console client a look, instructions on how to use it are here, and if you are concerned with it stealing cycles while gaming, we have created batch files that can toggle it's service mode off and on. These are listed here. Hopefully some of this information can help you, but if you have any more questions, feel free to ask! :D

You also want to make sure that your advanced instruction sets (like SSE) are still enabled, via the forceasm switch, otherwise, you'll take quite a hit in folding performance.

Run console at 100%, deadlineless WU, and 24/7 when you are not gaming - that machine should put out at least 4 points per hour. As it is it seems that what you are doing may be useless. Most WU have deadlines past which they are worthless.
If you game 12 hours a day that should still give you a WU every week.

Which work units are you getting ?
And what are their frame times ?
You can get that info from the FAHlog.txt file if not running EMIII.

A system like that should run at 3 Points per Hour minimum.
So a small 50 point Gromac should be done in 12-16 hours folding time.
And a big 600 point Gromac in 85-90 hours folding time.

Check that something is not stealing cycles.

Luck........ :D

Unless you're running Big WUs, there's no reason to have to disable F@H while gaming. If you are running big WUs, you might benefit from shutting it down while gaming to free up ram.

The main rig in my sig folds full time. Never had slowdowns in any games due to folding.

Woo-hoo.
Got the console client, muuuuch faster.
Didn't even think of it before, thanks people.
