Recently, I bought an Encore ENF656-EHW-INPR PCI Modem from NewEgg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16825180001

but only indications of OS supports are the picutures of the box, which supports Windows 98 and up. But heading over to Encore's site

http://www.encore-usa.com/product.php?id=32

Shows that it supports Windows 95 and up. So, my issue is whenever I try to install the drivers, whether from auto starting the CD or downloading them from Encore's site, I get a MSGSRV32 error message...then the system freezes and if I look in the task manager NOTHING is running and I have to reboot. Can anyone help me here? Thanks in advance.

You're probably boned unless you have '98 or higher. If you can't get the PnP to work, that modem will never install.

Wow, how can you stand to use Windows 95? That's 10 years old... might as well be 100. Seriously, get Windows XP. You'll never regret it.

Windows 95 isn't supported by 95% of new hardware and software, and hell, even stuff that was supposed to work on 95 didn't half the time.

However, the website does say it's supported on Windows 95... When's the last time you reinstalled your operating system? If it's been more than six months, it's probably time. Reinstall the OS, then install the modem, and I bet it works. And I'm totally not pulling your chain here... when I had 95, I had to reinstall every 6-9 months or everything would get wonky.

Thanks for the quick responses. I cannot rebuild it (formatting), because it is a client's PC and it just needs a new modem to work. I have tested the old modem and it is hosed. So, I bought this one because the company's site said it did. I understand that 95 and even 98 needed to be rebuilt every 6-9months. I have been in the puter business for well, since 95 came out. Yes, I agree XP is the best Microsoft has produced so far...now if you would have asked me about the time it came out I would have said 2000 by far. Anyways, I have a software DSI (sub Creative Labs company) that I will swap from my machine to it and call it even....Thanks again. I figured that was the final answer. Thanks again.
