Having a hard time deciding on a card

I will be purchasing a vid card within the next few weeks. Here is my concern: I hear people speaking of how 512mb is actually becoming useful now (only with CoD2 but I would assume this is the beginning). I was planning on buying a GTX. However, maybe it is worth simply saving 100 bucks and getting a 7800GT instead and just buying another card in a shorter amount of time than i would have normally (was planning on not upgrading the vid card for about 2 years). Hope you guys actually understand what i'm trying to ask in that whole convoluted mess. Thanks for any input

If you are not planning on upgrading the vid for about 2 years, I'd say go all out, and if you are waiting a few weeks, I would wait and see what ATI next cards can do and see if it makes Nvidia counter with something.

edit......... Is SLI an option for you?
