77x have no final deadlines, but are not considered Deadlineless work units in the traditional sense because they are Gromacs work units. Older hardware doesn't have SSE optimizations to make TGs a suitable replacement for TTs, as TGs would fold much too slowly (1/3rd the speed of TTs).

Yes, a very small number of TGs were released as an experiment quite some time ago. (Damn, you have a good memory.) But the result was as I said. Instead of earning 5 PPD, machines without SSE were only earning 1.67 PPD. And because they folded so slowly, they were guaranteed to miss the prefered deadline, which guaranteed the WU would be assinged to a second person, which guaranteed the duplication of work units and very long delays in the return of the work units. The automatic duplication of work units, and extremely long return times go against the goals of the project, even for "Timeless" work units. As such, TGs were pulled from the Timeless WU Assignment Servers shortly after their debut, never* to be sent out as TGs again. (only as Gs with no Ts.

)I figured this was is response to people yaking about clients not getting any work due to being set to timeless. There is a thread over at the offical forums, I forget where it left off at. Last I read VJ was thinking about release something to the timeless masses.
Config a client for timeless and see if grabs one. If grabs one, good enough for me to call it timeless!

Well my X2 3800 just grabbed two more 772's and emIII is reporting 109 and 101 ppd while surfin. email, some games and here. These have a please return by of 300 days!
I've got type 3 and nonet set, but it only picks up one WU (not 10) at a time.
But then my Linux box picks up a 1496 with a "please return by" of 48 days.

I had several old clunkers in my farm doing Timeless WUs. They had been set to download a batch of WUs, then work on them one by one, returning the results as each one completed. Even after the Timeless WUs disappeared from the Stanford servers, they kept on folding and returning WUs.
Recently EMIII showed that these machines were folding away, but the WUs were not being returned...they were being completed, queued up, but not returning. The fahLog file showed repeated attempts to return the WUs, but no success. So, I deleted everything except the console, restarted, and skipped the Timeless option. They are now folding away happily, and hopefully will not just be heating the area but returning WUs. I'll check on whether they are meeting the deadlines, and if not, I will retire the boxen from folding service.

So I built another instance with an ID of 4 and I finally picked up a regular WU.
