Hi, I have a q8300 c2q processor, without the intel hardware virtualization. Would I get significantly better performance with vmware?

you need VT /AMD-V to run x64 guests. There may be a lot of things that dont work with non VT processors.

vSphere runs only on 64 bit processors.
 
You will also see some performance benefits, depending on the application, IIRC.
