I just re-purposed the server I had my 4-disc 4.5TB RAID 5 in and am now trying to decide what to do with the RAID. I need a new box for it obviously and with the semi-frequent sales on the HP ProLiant N40L I've been considering going with it and WHS. Right now the drives are hanging off a 3WARE controller and my question is, is the RAID functionality in WHS comparable to my hardware RAID. I like the form factor and low power usage of the N40L but care more about my data and don't want to be stepping down in reliability. Any thoughts? The RAID only houses my media collection.
 
I'd stick with the RAID you have with WHS. WHS2011 doesn't have any RAID functionality beyond what you can get in Windows. The previous version of WHS had the drive pooling capability that would mirror data in specified folders so that it resided on more than one physical disk. The benefit was being able to have a variety of hard drive types/sizes in one big storage pool, but still have redundancy for things you cared about. There are 3rd party add-ins that try to restore/improve upon that functionality.

Personally, when I moved to WHS2011, I added a hardware RAID card to make up for loss of drive extender. (I run two separate RAID6 arrays.)
