Hardware noob, needs help with issue

Getting blue screens suddenly and I don't know why, I was getting fps drops in BF3 cq maps and a friend helped me update the drivers on my mobo, which fixed it.. could that be the cause? I'm totally lost when it comes to any kind of issue, so any advice is really appreciated.

The first time it happened I got loads of error boxed for all programmes running in the background, 'blah blah has stopped working' and then got the bluescreen'

specs:

Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4.7Ghz
corsair H60 Water Cooler
Gigabyte Z68A-D3
8gb ram
Crucial 64GB SSD S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s
1TB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s
GTX 670 Asus direct 2gb
PSU: 700W Xigmatek

After a soft reset it hangs at the boot screen, have to turn off and turn on to bring it back

This can be indicative of a problem with the page file. See this Microsoft article.

If the issue still persists, then I suggest that you run virus scan on the computer and check.

It could also be due to your SSD not liking the new motherboard drivers - check to see if there's a firmware update available for the SSD. IIRC this particularly affects OCZ SSDs.

Have you tried the CPU at stock settings?
