hey, my friend's computer just died and he wants to get the data of his harddrive because he wants to get a brand new computer. when i install his harddrive and put it on windows and i try to go to the document and settings folder to get the mp3s and the movies, the freakin thing says "access diend" how the hell can i bypass this?

use a distro of linux called "Knoppix " It boots right off a CD and lets you acess any part of the drive.

do you guys know something else then the knoppix? i want to do it in windows.

No, knoppix guy. The drive will have NTFS and Knoppix will not be able to read the encrypted data (if it is).

You need to take ownership of the drive/folder. I believe it can be found under the right click or properties menus, but I don't remember since I don't have a drive like that right now. It has to do with user permissions.
