Harddrive going dead?

Recently everytime I access my 40GB slave hardddrive, it would take forever to access its folders through my computer and lag my entire computer. In addition, when I do access em, my harddrive produces more heat and gets more loud. However, none of my datas or corrupted or missing.. fortunately. Is there an indication my harddrive will fail soon?
 
Use speedfan and look at the smart health of the drive..

Also make sure that thing isnt in PIO mode... I think I used to have a drive taht stops after a while when it isnt used so perhaps thats the spinup time or something.
 
Well my health on the Maxtor is at 81% but my performance is at 100%... Is there something like an error checking program I can run? By the way, where can I edit my PIO mode.. :rolleyes:
