Harddrive crash?

Hiya, 1 of my firends recently got back form the US and they told me their laptop had started making a funny groaning noise.

They'd had someone do a 'temporary' job in the US, who'd said they'd had the hard drive crash.

Now I've been asked to take a look at it, so I'm running personal smart check on the disk, but apart from the disk running at 45 degrees C I can't see anything wrong.

Anybody know anything about disks?
