HardDrive cannot be found...

Hey.
I have recently purchased a new 250g SATA harddrive from western digital.
Everything runs fine, until i am trying to install windows. When i push 'enter' to install it,
it says that there is no harddrive hooked up, so it cant install.
in the DOS screens, it lists my HD, but after that, it just cant find it.
Please help,

F6 to install SATA drivers on your Mobo

Is this a new mobo/HD setup?
 
Yes.

Also, i tried, pusing, f6, but it asked for the disk for my HD... which i dont have. i just got the HD.

What it should be asking for is a disk with drivers for your motherboard's disk controller (not for the hard drive itself). Did you get a floppy disk with your motherboard? (BTW, which motherboard?) If not, you might have to go to the manufacturer's website to download the drivers and create your own disk...

I have the Abit NF7.

It did not come with a floppy disk, it only came with a CD, which would allow me to set up the sata HDs in windows... but i only have sata... so i dont know how that would work.
(well.. it wouldn't)
 
Skimming through the manual for the NF7 MB, a few other things came to mind:

1. Make sure that the SATA controller is enabled in the bios.
2. Assuming that it is, you'll need to download the proper chipset drivers and place onto a floppy to install Windows. Which ones depend on which flavor of the NF7 motherboard (most likely, the Silicon Image 3112: ftp://ftp-usa.abit.com.tw/pub/download/driver2/sli3112/v10050.zip)

You could also copy the SATA drivers from the CD you have to a floppy.

The floppy disk isnt big enough..... and how do i know exactly which files i need? ><
 
Using the zip file from the Abit website, there is a subfolder iin the archive called "Disk" that totals 271kb, and includes the usual inf. file and whatnot. If you put those files onto a floppy, that should be sufficient for installing Windows.
