Hard Drives

I am thinking of a new hard drive but am not sure what I need to look out for? Is there any names that I want to avoid? and how do I know it is compatible with my pc?
any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

first thing, post up all the specs on your machine so we have an idea on the parts and age of your machine.
