opkay ive been having soem problems with my hard drives lately.
ive had an 80 Gig maxtor 7200RPM 8MB cache for about a year nwo and never had any problems with it.
recently i bought a western digital 160 GIG from CUSA.
i had no problems with then for liek the first 2 days then the problems started to happen.
i had the 80 gig with my OS on it, and i had the 160 gig for file storage in slave.
both the hard drives are on the slave IDE channel......if ut hink that would cause the problems let me know i can change that.
i started getting the blue screen of death while i would be doing anything on the pc.
if i let it sit in windows over night iw ould wake up with a blue screen of death.....i think the screen said MACHINE_CHECK_REFISTRY....i figured the 80 must be dead....so i took it out, formatted the 160 and installed windows on it...and it ran fien for awhile then i started getting the blue screen of death.
i ran a chkdsk /r in the recovery counsel and it fixed it for awhile, then i started getting the blue screen of death wihiel booting....i ran another chkdsk /r and it got to about 75% and said...sumthign liek unrecoverable errors were found.
i heard somewhere that if you have windows xp on a drive more than 70gigs it can cause problems..so right now im formatting the 160 into a 60 for the OS and a 70 for files.
FYI....when i tried to put the 80 in...without the 160 just put the 80 in by itself to try and install winXP 64 BIT..it would nto detect it.
i will elt you know hwo it turns out.....but WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY HARD DRIVES?
