Hard Drive Questions...

Alright, I built my first computer a little less than 2 months ago and I do not use alot of space on a hard drive. I keep my hard drive partitioned so if I ever have to reformat I can keep my files. When I bought the hard drive I thought....."If I get an 80GB I will use about 15 or 20GB tops". Well, that was before I discovered anime. I have 20gb of naruto on my computer.

So I'm sitting here now less than 2 months later with 45 GB filled....Once I hit about 60 I plan on getting another 80gb.

Currently I have this hard drive:

I want to buy within the next month or two this hard drive:

Question #1 - Will these 2 work together not in any RAID

Question #2 - Is this a good hard drive?

Question #3 - I have heard I can install the second one, boot into windows. it will then say new device detected and I can just right click format the whole hard drive. Is this right?

Any more info you have would be great, thanks for taking the time to read this!

Yes the will work fine together not in raid. Segate makes some good drives and you should be happy with you purchase.

You might have to go into disk managment and format it once it is installed but that is very easy.
Right Click on MY computer then click manage. Then just look under Storage for Disk management.

Thanks for the fast response. I am still thinking about investing another hard drive. Once I get the money and use at least 60GB of my current hard drive I might get another 80gb.

Seagate makes good hard drives IMHO. I have had a 160 GB for about 6 months now and couldn't be happier. Great performance, and it's nice and quiet. If you can save a little more, I would suggest you get the 120 GB if you need the space. If not, good luck with your purchase. :D

Well with my case all the bays are the same....well the bottom 4 anyway. But when I tried to put my hd on the top of the 4 bays it wouldn't fit...it was scraping the edges....so I had to put it on the bottom....I am not sure if another hard drive would fit on top of the current 80gb....hmm if i got the 120 i could have 200GB...

Hmm....I have to decide once I fill up this hard drive....

Depending on your budget, you might want to consider a 250gb drive - better value for your money, and I've found if you have the space, you will use it. I currently have 360gb in my main computer, with <12gb free. I also thought I'd never use 80gb when I got an 80gb hdd. 80gb for ~60 bucks, 75 cents/GB. 120gb for 90 - 75 cents/gb again. You can get a Seagate 250 for about 125 - 50 cents/GB.

Well I can barely fill this one so another 80GB or a 120GB I think would be fine. If I get into more anime and start using it I might buy a 250GB and add it to my 80....it all depends how fast I can fill it.
