Hard Drive Problem

Ok, so I had to reinstall windows. I install windows onto a WD Raptor which is SATA. I also have 2 other IDE drives that I use for storage. I unplugged the IDE drives when I installed windows otherwise it tries to make one of the partitions on them C, which I dont want cause I have stuff on those drives I want to keep.

Anyway, after I got windows installed and some drivers loaded, I plugged the IDE drives back in. Windows doesnt want to load up with the IDE drives plugged in, but if I unplug them it loads up fine. I made sure that I have the boot order for the drives all set up and it recognises all the drives in the BIOS.

I also tried a different IDE cable and that didnt work. Anyone have any ideas?

I think it depends on the motherboard. I mean, on how it sets up drives. I can only speak for my experience. I have a disk on IDE 0, another drive on SATA 1, and a RAID 0 array.
I booted from CD with my Windows XP Home Edition. When it came time, the install asked me what drive I wanted to install Windows on. The choices were the IDE drive, the SATA drive, or the RAID drive.
So if I were you, go into your BIOS and set drive boot order. Meaning, set the first boot drive to your CD drive so you can install Windows, set your second boot drive choice to your SATA drive. Then when you go to install Windows, it will get to the part where it will ask you what drive you want to install Windows on and the C:\ choice should be your SATA drive. Try it at least and see if it works or not.
