I just got a wd800 and put it in my slimline matx case. According to smart it averages arround 50c. And when I feel it it's hot to the touch, especially compared to my maxtor in my regular tower.

Is this bad or normal?

edit: also, it reports 13v on the 12v line, could that be causing the problems?

That's below its upper limit, so it's probably fine. If you're paranoid try to get some extra airflow over it. The 13v issue is of more concern, that's well outside the +/-5% rule of thumb, though it probably wouldn't up your temp that much.

I added an 80mm to the side and it seems to have stablized arround 40.

With the power supply i'm using the "if it works" theory.
