Well my Storage hard drive is failing after only a year 
. Anyhow, let me explain the problem and see if anyone has any suggestions. I backup my hard drives about twice a year, in December / June. However, I had not got around to it this June yet, which makes this a little tricky. The only data that I really want to obtain off the drive is the past six months of pictures, the rest I can re-download / rip.
Anyhow, this is what happens.
I had to reinstall Windows due to a failed Motherboard (although now I'm not sure if it was the motherboard or if it was just this hard drive causing problems). Anyhow, on the new mobo / windows install, when windows first installed and I tried booting in, CHDISK would start running, and it found a bunch of errors in the filesystem, and hotfixes were not working. I disabled CHDISK so I could load into windows to see how the drive responds.
In windows, the drive (D:\ drive) is viewable, and when I double click, I am able to view the folder listings etc, however whenever I try to actually open a file, such as a text file windows then freezes and the hard drive spins non-stop. I'm not sure if this is a case of the hard drive corrupting everything on it, or if the hard drive is dying. The drive does click every now and then, however I have always just ignored it. I've never had to deal with a bad hard drive before (In 4 years of building my own computers, and the first one I bought 4 years ago is still running like a charm.) I'm not really sure where to start with this problem.
Anyone have any suggestions, or need any more info? My system specs in my sig are accurate (and its the Seagate thats giving me problems) except I've reverted back to my Abit IC7-MAX3.
