Earlier today my brother was playing Counter Strike and his hard drive started to make lots of noice then his game froze so he restarted his computer. After it restarted he got to the desktop and he tried running aim, but he got a error and his hard drive made the same noise and his computer froze. Now his computer wont start up even in safe mode. Does he need to reformat or does he need to do something else?

Find out what manufacturer the drive was made by and download/run their diagnostic tools. Drive noises are usually caused by bad power, head crashes/catastrophic failure, or corrupt sectors, possible related to surface damage. The utility will detect the latter and remap them if possible. If it can't, it may be a DOA unit, in which case the utility will certainly let you know.
