im looking for a free way to clone my hard drive and my os is 2012 server r2 any ideas?

GParted should work, depending on various things.
If it's the same size drive (like exactly the same size) you could just use dd.

There's a GParted live CD that'll work for either.
 
You can use the newly released version of AOMEI Backupper Server 3.5 to clone your hard drive. This software is 30 day free trail, it can help you realize the clone function in an easy way. Hope this helps.
 
i actually ended up installing a dual boot with windows 10 then using macrium reflect to clone win 10 and 2012 server over
