Hard Drive Cache for RAID?

I'm planning a machine that will use Linux software raid. Four drives on two ATA100 PCI controllers (no master/slave, all master drives on their own channels). I have everything but the drives. Has anyone done any tests as to whether the onboard cache of the drive make a difference in software RAID-5?
