usually u pick up a vesa mount to mount a monitor on the wall. It sounds like you are trying to rig up your own mount (which a college student should do 
). I would search for vesa mounts and see what screws come with them. That might be better luck. If you monitor is like mine i think u are looking at vesa 75. Good luck, and post a pic of your finished product. Just like u I am a poor college student so if your turns out good, I may have to give it a try.
