HAF 922 VS RV02/-E

Been debating between these two. I was at Tigerdirect's mega store in my area and I quite like the HAF 922 (Associate opened it for me so I could check it out inside and outside.)

It doesn't look as ridiculous as the HAF 932 and I can definately see myself working with this case. It's on sale for 106 (Including Tax) at TD's store so I can pick up and take home.

However, they don't have the RV02 or RV02-E in store for me to see in person either. I love the look of the Raven however the 922 is quite affordable.

Anyone out there that's seen both in person? Is the performance worth the extra 50 USD? Actually is it worth the extra 25 USD? (The look of the Raven is worth 25 extra thus 50 - 25. Tee Hee.)


Anyways, any help would be appreciated.
 
Haha I'd pay $50 for the look of the Raven over the 922 :). 922 is extremely garish in my opinion.

I personally think the vertical GPU 'hot air rises' arrangement malarky is over hyped, and the HAF 922 is better for air cooling. The massive side fan in the 922 probably does more for GPU temperatures than the Raven's rotated mobo, but it would be interesting to see some quantitative comparisons.
 
If it were just the motherboard orientation alone it'd be a gimmick, sure. The 90 degree orientation works incredibly well with the layout of their case and how the AP181 fans are specifically tuned to force fresh air in from the bottom of the case and out the top.

Truthfully I'd say a side case fan is a gimmick compared to this ingenuity. I've never liked the idea of simply putting a fan on the side to push air onto the GPU area and give the illusion of better airflow within the case.

I'd say it's definitely worth the price difference for the performance if you already enjoy the look joxang.
 
I thought the raven didn't come with air penetrators as a default option?
 
All raven 2 with revision of 1.7 and higher do
Raven 2-E also comes with them and FT2 hdd mounting system.

Also bit tech has raven 2 with normal 180mm fans and FT2 with AP181 compared to Haf X and Haf-912:

Read about the mounting. Only complaints are that the SSD tray could easy fit two and thus should and that it only comes with one swappable mount. I have to research into how much the swappable mounts cost. (Have 2 1GB HDs.)

Thanks for that link. Wish there was a [H] look at these cases. Those results show the HAF 922 very comparable to the RV02 with the edge going to the HAF 922.
 
I have the haf-922 from christmas and I have been very happy with it. the case had pretty much everything I wanted. Mine did not come with a side fan, instead a massive fan on top and front and a smaller fan behind the cpu. Temps are fine. It certainly is very quiet compared to my last one. The case is wide. Cables can be snaked under the board to get them out of the way.

If you get the RV02-E with AP181 fans, you don't have to worry about airflow ever again! :)

The turned MB design and positive air pressure really does the trick. The AP181 fans are directional, which means they blow the air straight up. By pulling in fresh air from the colder floor, blowing it unrestricted between the cards and then out on top, you reduce the chance of getting heat pockets that build up over time and the major components like CPU and GPU gets constantly fresh air from the outside.

If you read the reviews on the FT02 and RV02, you'll notice that under comparison with SLI/Crossfire setups, the FT02/RV02 doesn't have the huge temp differences between bottom/top cards, since there are no bottom/top cards. :p

My biggest gripe with the FT02/RV02 is that there is a long way from PSU to optical/hard drives, so be prepared to use adapters if you have short cables. :)
